Orthodox Food Festival and Old Globeville Days

It's finally here! The granddaddy of church festivals: the Orthodox Food Festival and Old Globeville Days will be held on Saturday, September 9th, from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm. There will be an abundance of ethnic food, drinks and desserts from Greece, Romania, Russia, Eritrea, Mexico, Serbia, Italy and Ukraine. You'll enjoy music and dance performances, soft drinks, craft beers and Eastern European brandies and vodkas. Crafts, Pysanky, Ukranian folk art, iconography, books and games for the children keep everyone entertained.

Take a tour of historic Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, built in 1898, and aligned with Orthodoxy since 1903. This exquisite temple glows with icons, candles, symbolism and 120 years of stories.

The festival is one day only and admission is FREE - don't miss it.

Church Festivals Return to Globeville

Oh how we missed these gems last year! There are two extraordinary ethnic parish festivals in Globeville within blocks of each other.

On Sunday, August 29th, Holy Rosary Parish at 4688 Pearl Street will host its bazaar from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Check out amazing tacos, hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, flautas, enchiladas, churros, sodas, ice cream, snacks and desserts. There will be games for the kids, face painting, the Wick School Irish Dancers, Matachines Dancers, a DJ, musical performances, raffles and prizes.
FREE admission! Affordable, family-friendly fun. Tours of the historic church will begin at 1:00 pm in English and 3:00 pm in Spanish.

Orthodox Food Festival and Old Globeville Days

It's almost here - the 14th Annual Orthodox Food Festival and Old Globeville Days at Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, 349 E 47th Avenue (at Logan Street) in Denver. This grand event will be held one day only, Saturday, July 15, 2017, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Taste ethnic food favorites from Romania, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, Eritrea, Italy, Greece and Mexico, as well as grilled lamb, hot dogs, craft beer and Slivovitz (Slovenian plum brandy). 
Enjoy live entertainment, games for the children, crafts, an iconography exhibit, and tours of the historic Orthodox Cathedral. Admission is FREE. Presented by Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral.

Good Time in Globeville

The photos say it best - Globeville knows how to throw a great festival. Father Alex Vallens of Holy Transfiguration of Christ Orthodox Cathedral gave a brief history of the church and explained the iconostas, or icon screen, originally built by parishioners in 1904 in the late 19th century Russian style. Outside, vendors offered ethnic foods from Eastern Europe, Russia, Italy and Mexico, as well as crafts, gifts and an icon demonstration. Sunday's entertainment included Planina, singing songs of Eastern Europe, and enthusiastic performances by children in native dress from the Science, Art & Sport Center for Children. Grupo Folklorico Sabor Latino explained the meaning and construction of each part of their costumes and the meaning in each dance.

Mark the third weekend in July for next year's festival.
